Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) Egregious Child Exploitation
The articles discuss the risk and protective factors of child human trafficking and child sexual exploitation, suggesting that child abuse assessments and treatments should be modified to reflect child trafficking victims due to the victimââ¬â¢s subjective experiences. According to Fong and Cardoso (2010), internationally, each year 1 to 2 million children are trafficked, with an average age of 13 to 14 years old. Children who are at higher risk for trafficking coupled with prostitution are likely runaways and within the foster system (Fong Cardoso, 2010). In an effort to crack down on child trafficking and sexual exploitation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) opened offices in areas where there is a prevalence of child prostitution. Yet, the efforts of the FBI to crackdown on child sexual exploitation may prove difficult, for instance, in some cultures outside of the US as well as some laws within the US permits for consent of marriage of an older adult to a young g irl who has not yet experienced puberty (Grover, 2007). Nevertheless, with respect to the dominant culture (i.e., child protection laws) within the US, to effectively curtail the trafficking and sexual exploitation of children and the residual mental effects, there must be: 1. covert operations by law enforcement agencies to penetrate, expose, and dissolve illegal trafficking operations, 2. an allocation of federal funding to non-government and governmental area agencies prior to the determining

With the focus of advertising in states that have banned texting while driving, Toyota can position itself as a front runner for safety to the customer. With the threat of citations, tickets, and possible jail, the customer will be looking for a quick fix. Toyota can position itself as the cure to the problem. At this point, Toyota is the only maker who offers this service, which puts them on the leader board and sets the stage for its followers and the positioning needed. New Atlantis By Francis Bacon Essays - Philosophy Of Science
New Atlantis by Francis Bacon Francis Bacon was the founder of the modern scientific method. The focus on the new scientific method is on orderly experimentation. For Bacon, experiments that produce results are important. Bacon pointed out the need for clear and accurate thinking, showing that any mastery of the world in which man lives was dependent upon careful understanding. This understanding is based solely on the facts of this world and not as the ancients held it in ancient philosophy. This new modern science provides the foundation for modern political science. Bacon's political science completely separated religion and philosophy. For Bacon, nothing exists in the universe except individual bodies. Although he did not offer a complete theory of the nature of the universe, he pointed the way that science, as a new civil religion, might take in developing such a theory. Bacon divided theology into the natural and the revealed. Natural theology is the knowledge of God which we can get from the study of natur e and the creatures of God. Convincing proof is given of the existence of God but nothing more. Anything else must come from revealed theology. Science and philosophy have felt the need to justify themselves to laymen. The belief that nature is something to be vexed and tortured to the compliance of man will not satisfy man nor laymen. Natural science finds its proper method when the 'scientist' puts Nature to the question, tortures her by experiment and wrings from her answers to his questions. The House of Solomon is directly related to these thoughts. "It is dedicated to the study of Works and the Creatures of God" (Bacon, 436). Wonder at religious questions was natural, but, permitted free reign, would destroy science by absorbing the minds and concerns of men. The singular advantage of Christianity is its irrationality. The divine soul was a matter for religion to handle. The irrational soul was open to study and understanding by man using the methods of science. The society of the NEW ATLANTIS is a scientific society. It is dominated by scientists and guided by science. Science conquers chance and determines change thus creating a regime permanently pleasant. Bensalem, meaning "perfect son" in Hebrew, has shunned the misfortunes of time, vice and decay. Bensalem seems to combine the blessedness of Jerusalem and the pleasures and conveniences of Babylon. In Bacon's NEW ATLANTIS, the need for man to be driven does not exist. Scarcity is eliminated thereby eliminating the need for money. "But thus, you see, we maintain a trade, not for gold, silver or jewels... nor for any other commodity of matter, but only for God's first creature which was light" (Bacon, 437). This shows a devotion to truth rather than victory and it emphasizes the Christian piety to which the scientist is disposed by virtue of his science. As man observes and brings the fruits of his observations together, he discover likeness' and differences among events and objects in the universe. I n this way he will establish laws among happenings upon which he can base all subsequent action. Bacon realized that sometimes religious ideas and the discoveries of nature and careful observations were contradictory but he argued that society must believe both. The NEW ATLANTIS begins with the description of a ship lost at sea. The crew "lift up their hearts and voices to God above, who showeth his wonders in the deep, beseeching him of his mercy" (Bacon, 419). Upon spotting land and discerning natives the sailors praise God. When a boarding party comes to their ship to deliver messages, none of the natives speak. Rather, the messages are delivered written on scrolls of parchment. The parchment is "signed with a stamp of cherubins' wings... and by them a cross" (Bacon, 420). To the sailors, the cross was "a great rejoicing, and as it were a certain presage of good" (Bacon, 420). After the natives leave and return to the ship, they stop and ask "Are ye Christians?" (Bacon, 421). Whe n the sailors confirm that they are, they are taken to the island of Bensalem. On Bensalem, the sailors are 'confined' to their resting place and are attended to according to their needs. The sailors reply,

The law in Britain disallows for euthanasia however it is legal for abortion to take place. Killing has always been seen as immoral. (Genesis 27) Thou shalt not kill.In the story of creation God built up the world in seven days. He made plants and animals to serve us. Its whole point is to show to us that we get life from God and that we must respect and be thankful for the gift we have been given.Despite this there are many occasions were people feel that euthanasia and abortion are necessary. Euthanasia is a gentle or easy death and is used to show compassion to those who are in incredible pain. E.g. Diane Pretty is a sufferer or motor neurone disease. She is currently fighting for the right for her husband to kill her without him getting imprisoned after wards. Since she caug ht the disease the condition of her life has deteriorated immensely. She is now in a wheelchair, her limbs do not work and she has to be fed through a tube. She is in a lot of pain however her intellectual abilities and he capacity to make decisions is unimpaired. This woman is an adult that should be allowed to make decisions for herself. It must be causing her much physical and mental distress the pain she is going through, waiting for the time when her lungs will collapse and she will suffocate to death.Euthanasia is an easier way out for her. She will be able to die with dignity and her family will no longer have to watch her suffer any longer. But if she was to use euthanasia legally it would path the way for others to do so as well, and could even lead on to involuntary euthanasia. It has occurred in the past that patients that have been written off by doctors have recovered fully. People when they are in a lot of pain make decision that they dont really mean because they are not thinking straight. Many patients who would have decided to opt for euthanasia are relieved now that it wasnt made legal because they are now living a better quality of life than they ever were. Some feel that the pain they went through made them stronger and a better person, as it was a time for them to reflect on the way that were living their life. For abortion- having a baby can be stressful, especially if it is an unwanted one. If there is a chance that having the baby would physically harm the mother then some believe that it is justifiable to terminate the babys life. However God does everything for a reason. It could be time for the mother to die and the baby to go and live a fruitful life. It can also be justified to have an abortion if the baby is going to be born seriously disabled, however Stephen Hawkin is an example of a man who has still managed to achieve great success despite his serious disability. If a woman was rapped and left pregnant it would be a very hard de cision to keep the child. It wasnt her fault for having an unwanted child, and it would be understandable for her to have an abortion. If the baby was spared its life then it could be left with living a life of resentment, but we also have to remember that it is not the babys fault as well.I have a very open minded opinion when it comes to euthanasia however I do not endorse it. I understand that being left in the situation were euthanasia is an option is very difficult and I would hate to be the one to make a decision concerning it. If someone who was close to me was ill, and dying was the only way of alleviating their pain and it was their definite choice then I would probably fight to help his or her cause. However I do believe that involuntary euthanasia is wrong and that it is the same as committing a murder no matter how much the person who has done it believes it to be an act of mercy. My opinion on abortion is much stronger. I believe abortion on demand is very wrong. Contrac eptives are not hard to get and if those involved are thought responsible enough to have sex then they are also responsible enough to look after the child. Unfortunately this is not always the case. However there is another option of adoption. Many young parents who cannot have children would love an opportunity to raise a child and call it their own. This I believe is a much better decision. I do have more sympathy for girls who have been rapped and left pregnant but I believe that it would be better for the baby to be given up for adoption, as it was not the babys fault to begin with. I have reservations about babies who are endangering the life of the mother. I think a course of action should be taken up with doctors to decide what is best. If there was no chance of the baby living without the mother then abortion is ok as it is better to save one live than lose two.So to summarise my opinion I think that Euthanasia is more acceptable than abortion. As euthanasia is the taking of your own life, if the person is really so determined to die then I say let them and end their suffering. Abortion however is the taking of someone elses life and is not acceptable but I do have reservations about it.

Rosewood Incident Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Rosewood Incident - Essay Example It just served as the immediate cause for the incident. To venture a little further, it was a pretext for the manifestation of malice and fury that were already in store. That the grand juryââ¬â¢s investigation ended up finding insufficient evidence to prosecute the persecutors adds insult to injury and establishes a clear case of racial chauvinism shamelessly creeping into the system of criminal justice. Had the crusade of people like Ida B Wells and Dyer for anti-lynching legislations been successful, probably the Rosewood tragedy could have been averted. It was less than a decade ago, in 2005, that the US Senate could approve a resolution of apology to lynching victims and survivors2 and, like a posthumous award, it poorly reflects on the commitment of previous federal governments towards the fundamental rights of its own citizens. It exposes the true historical legacy of a society and a nation that claim to have been conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that a ll men are created equal. ____________ 1Ron Olson. A Theory of African American Offending Race, Racism and Crime (New York: Routledge, 2011), 43. With over 300 African Americans being brutally murdered, a whole community having become extinct and an entire town having been reduced to charred remains by appalling atrocities spread over a weekââ¬â¢s time, the bone-chilling Rosewood pogrom continues to be an indelible stain on humanity. It had not been very long ago that the assistance of about a third of a million black men3 (who, however, were deemed unqualified for full citizenship) as soldiers was found acceptable in a so-called fight against the fascist powers, World War I. The alleged charge of the white womanââ¬â¢s rape was a dubious one because there was a version that attributed the root cause of the charge to an extra-marital affair. It goes on only to prove that the motive of the attacks had more to do with a xenophobic attitude and irrational animosity (towards blacks who were perceived as their tormentors) prevailing in the white community, which in turn were propagated by media propaganda and white supremacist doctrines. The incident deserves to be condemned in the strongest terms because it took for granted the truthfulness of a white womanââ¬â¢s statement by default, jut as it did in the case of Victoria Price and Ruby Bates versus nine black-youths4 in 1931. The people involved in the atrocities as well as the jury men were too quick to believe and too prejudiced to try to view facts objectively. It was a damage beyond compensation and reparation. Going by the dictum that justice delayed is justice denied, the $2.1 million compensation package5 announced by Florida state in 1994 to Rosewood survivors evokes no good feelings. Justice in the sense of bringing culprits to book alone can expiate a crime but not restitution. ____________ 3Walter C Rucker et al. It must be viewed with concern that it took sixty years6 for the Rosewood horror to capture the nationââ¬â¢s attention fortuitously, thanks to Gary Mooreââ¬â¢s initiative, and seventy years for a legislation to be made.

Compare and Contrast Liberalism and Socialism Essay
Compare and Contrast Liberalism and Socialism - Essay Example Liberalism on the other hand is a philosophy which is linked or associated with ideas like the individual liberty and equality. Liberalism started in the 17th century though some argue that it has roots much earlier than that. Marcus Aurelius, the emperor of Rome recognized a government which gave freedom of speech and equal rights to all its citizens (Antoninus 3).à It is often difficult to define liberalism because of its diversity and different forms (Young 24) but liberalism has attracted both, support and criticism from people with various thoughts and ideologies. In Northern America, liberalismà most nearly refers toà social liberalismà in contemporary politics. Theà Liberal Partyà is pointed to be a modern-liberal party (Puddington 142).à Liberalism in The United States of Americaà traces its history when Franklin Roosevelt was the president of the country. Theà New Deal à initiated by Franklin Roosevelt influenced many American presidents in the future inc luding John F. Kennedy. Kennedy was a liberal himself and he said, "a liberal is someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions and someone who cares about the welfare of the people" (Alterman 32). When Barack Obama won the presidential elections in the year 2008, the economic ties led to the re establishment of social liberalism (Wolfe xiv) In the late 20th century, the ââ¬Å"post industrial economyâ⬠created doubts among many about socialism which was in response to the industrial capitalism. During this era, information technology was given a higher bar than labor and material. Because of the doubt, many politicians adopted a ââ¬Å"third wayâ⬠which would preserve socialism and prevent the class based politics. Politicians who worked towards the promotion of socialism and hence the development of industrial growth includes Tony Blair, Bill Clinton and Wim Kok. (Ball & Dagger). The foremost principle of liberalism is indi vidual freedom. This freedom must be exercised in all phases of life as well as under all political and economic conditions. Socialism on the other hand presses upon an individualââ¬â¢s sociability. It minimizes competition and increases cooperation. Some socialists claim that when humans exploit other humans, the reason for poverty emerges through selfish motives and self interests. Thus, socialism is extremely important for the existence of markets and institutions as it promotes change. With respect to socialism, the role of the government is to make sure that the wealth is being fairly distributed among the masses. Socialismââ¬â¢s most important principle will only be achieved when all the workers of a state will have the same opportunity for economic equality. The relationship between socialism and liberalism is not certain. Socialism began in the 19th century with some strong ideologies and by the writings of Marx. Like liberalism, socialism also broke into many movement s after it was found (Grigsby 119).à Karl Marx did not accept the fundamental aspects of liberalism and also hoped to erase the differences between an individual and the society (Koerner 9). The allocation of resources used towards the making of useful products is socialism. The commodities or
